A Good Media Sales Person

How do you define a good media sales person?

By the sales volume that the person brings in?

No. That is too shallow if you ask me.

A good media sales person must have the basic sales skills to start with. However, more aggresive, more scheming, and more creative than other type of sales line. Let’s take a look at some of these skills;

– Ability to source out business opportunity whenever possible.
– Ability to work independantly without or minimal guidance.
– Ability to take up challenges.
– Ability to learn even without teaching.
– Ability to master all relevant knowledge and put to good use.
– Ability to understand clients’ needs and propose accordingly.
– Ability to imitate direct superior’s success.
– Ability to be time savvy.
– Ability to manage clients, colleagues & Boss.
– Ability to gain trust from clients, colleagues & Boss.
– Ability to convert potential calls into appointments.
– Ability to convert appointments into sales proposals.
– Ability to convert Sales Proposals into Contracted Sales.
– Ability to take rejection.
– Ability to generate moral among colleagues and junior staff.
– Ability to lead by example.
– Ability to sell anything effectively to anyone.
– Ability to meet time lines and meet targets.
– Ability to outshine every other person in the team.
– Ability to perform even under great pressure.
– Ability to separate work and personal problems.
– Ability to work with everyone in the company.
– Ability to encourage others within the team/ company.
– Ability to keep one self and others’ working moral high.
– Ability to listen and obey instructions (submissive). 
– Ability to avoid all office politics.
– Ability to have a good attitude.(Most Important)
– Ability to be able to do all of the above.

  1. To this point "Ability to outshine every other person in the team."  look out of place. If people work as a team, definitely different tasks will be given out between members and some task would be more important than the others. So the one who outshine others in a team is fair? Will such competition really build the team up or will it break down the team? You wanted support each other yet outshine everybody else? Anyway everybody can have ALL of the above skills at given certain point of
    time and to a certain magnitude that may not match others expectation.
    Then again if a person can matched the list, why would he been an
    employee? He can start his own media company and be successful.Just my 2 cent. No offense. :)

  2. Hi Leon, "Outshine" in this case means the ability to stands out among the team with individual’s performance. Team Work is important, the need to rise up is also important, especially in a media company.You are right, anyone can possess some or all of the things listed, but not everyone has the capital or the guts to start their own media company. I am one of them.Cheers!
